Getty Publications has introduced that it will likely be publishing a brand new younger grownup, queer graphic biography this September – Liberated: The Radical Art and Life of Claude Cahun. Written and drawn by YouTuber and illustrator Kaz Rowe, Liberated will launch as a 96-page hardcover on September 12, 2023 and can retail for $19.95.
The press launch:
“At the flip of the 20 th century in Nantes, France, Lucy Schwob met Suzanne Malherbe, and lightning struck. The two turned companions each artistically and romantically and remodeled themselves into the inventive personas Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore. Together, the couple launched into a radical journey of Surrealist collaboration that challenged gender roles and championed freedom at a time when strict societal norms meant that the reality of their relationship needed to stay secret.
“Liberated: The Radical Art and Life of Claude Cahun (Getty Publications, $19.95), the debut younger grownup graphic novel written and illustrated by cartoonist and YouTuber Kaz Rowe, brings to life the inspiring and highly effective story of Claude Cahun’s radical inventive profession and inventive and romantic partnership with Marcel Moore. Rowe dreamily illustrates Cahun’s upbringing, honoring their Jewish roots, time within the Surrealist milieu in Nineteen Twenties Paris, and at last deeply brave resistance to the Nazi occupation throughout World War II, for which Cahun and Moore have been each sentenced to dying. For ages 13 and up.“
Liberated is to be Kaz Rowe’s debut graphic novel and an extra feather of their cap alongside being a preferred historical past Youtuber, and having an ongoing LGBT city fantasy webcomic Cunning Fire that debuted in December 2016 and which has been on hiatus since August 2022.
