There’s no method for making moviegoers cry. But when I consider tragic moments that introduced audiences to tears (okay, high quality, me to tears — are you content now), the ones that leap to thoughts are often the deaths of beloved movie characters. Simba standing over the physique of Mufasa in The Lion King. Tony Stark snapping his fingers in Avengers: Endgame. Jack freezing within the water on the finish of Titanic as a result of Kate Winslet didn’t wish to share that rattling door with him.
It’s rarer — although in some methods much more tear-jerkingly satisfying — when a film makes you cry with out the demise of a personality. In this piece, I’m celebrating exactly these scenes: The saddest moments in cinema that aren’t demise scenes.
Some are about characters coming to grips with trauma. Others are about dad and mom being separated from their children. (Spoiler alert: As a dad, these scenes actually upset me!) Some take care of the inexorable passage of time (which, from a sure viewpoint, type of makes them demise scenes by proxy). All of them have one factor in widespread: They made us sob. (Okay, high quality me! They made me sob! I cry at motion pictures! AND I AM NOT ASHAMED ABOUT IT!)
NOTE: A whole lot of these scenes are endings, so if there’s a movie on the record that you just don’t need spoiled, it’s finest to skip that entry and transfer on to the subsequent, lest you study the exact means the movie will crush your soul do you have to resolve to look at it at a later date.
