Titanic director James Cameron has revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio almost didn’t get his iconic role in the movie as a result of of his angle.
According to Cameron, he almost shook a 21-year-old DiCaprio’s hand and noticed him on his method after the actor refused to do a studying for him throughout auditions.

“He said, ‘Oh, I don’t read.’ I shook his hand and said, ‘Thanks for coming by.’ And he said, ‘Wait, wait, wait. If I don’t read, I don’t get the part? Just like that?'”
In response, Cameron stated he was fairly agency with the actor.
“I said, ‘Oh, yeah. Come on. This is a giant movie that is going to take two years of my life, and you’ll be gone doing five other things while I’m doing post-production.
“So, I’m not going to f–k it up by making the fallacious determination in casting. So, you are going to learn, otherwise you’re not going to get the half.'”
After that, DiCaprio was huffy, and apparently very “adverse” leading up to having to read with co-star Kate Winslet.
“He is available in… and each ounce of his whole being is simply so adverse – proper up till I stated, ‘Action.’ Then he changed into Jack,” the director marvelled.
“Kate simply lit up, and so they performed the scene. Dark clouds had opened up, and a ray of solar got here down and lit up Jack. I’m like, ‘All proper. He’s the man.'”

The learn ended up turning right into a magical second, till DiCaprio hit Cameron with one thing else.
“Leonardo comes again in, and he says ‘My dad and I’ve been speaking abut the script, and we had been pondering it may have this and this and this’.”
“He needed [the role] to have some affliction, or some downside, or some traumatic factor from the previous,” Cameron defined.
When DiCaprio completed, Cameron determined to hit him with some recommendation.
“I stated, ‘You gotta learn to maintain the centre and never have all that stuff, this is not Richard III.
“‘When you can do what Jimmy Stewart did, or Gregory Peck did – they just f–king stood there, they didn’t have a limp or a lisp – then you’ll be ready for this, but I’m thinking you’re not ready.”
When Cameron defined that to DiCaprio, all the pieces “clicked” for him.
