Travis Scott and tennis legend John McEnroe’s spat over their collaborative Nike sneaker has continued to warmth up.
In an Instagram video posted on Sunday (December 10) by The People Gallery, McEnroe defaces a pair of their Nike Mac Attack kicks, writing “Mac” over Travis’ Cactus Jack brand on the heel of the shoe.
McEnroe was additionally sporting a T-shirt which had “Cactus Mac” written on it within the model of Scott’s Cactus Jack brand.
In the video, McEnroe addresses the rapper immediately, saying: “I was wearing these things in the ’80s before this guy was born. Now, all of a sudden Travis Scott’s got this thing, Cactus Jack, so I just made it Cactus Mac.
“I mean, come on. A bit of respect — that’s all I’m asking for.”
The state of affairs between Travis Scott and John McEnroe, which is presumably a publicity stunt orchestrated by Nike, started over the weekend when a video exhibiting them having a heated argument throughout a Zoom name went viral.
In the clip, McEnroe voices his disapproval of Scott’s suggestion to call the kicks “Cactus Jack” and calls for the road as a substitute be referred to as “Cactus Mac.” “God damn it, Travis. [Nike employee] Jenny is right, okay? Let’s have a little bit of compromise.”
Despite Scott’s try to clarify that “Cactus Mac was never a thing,” McEnroe wasn’t keen to budge and took the suggestions as a slap within the face, exclaiming: “Come on, man! Show some respect! This is my shoe!”
Scott replied: “I’m not really like feelin’ it. It’s, like, something about it feels off…like selling burgers or something.”
He added: We ain’t attempting to take none of that away from you. Ain’t attempting to disrespect. I ain’t attempting to do something like that. Trust me, I do know extra concerning the worth of the shoe than anyone else.
“But right now, the young ragers really the ones kind of pushing me for what is going on right now. I mean, you got to trust me on this.”
The clip ended with McEnroe storming out of the Zoom assembly and refusing to return.
In June this 12 months, Nike introduced that they’d be reviving McEnroe’s signature Mac Attack shoe with Travis Scott redesigning the silhouette.
Scott and Nike have but to touch upon McEnroe’s remarks.
