Deborah Doofan, a scholar on the University of Port Harcourt, has reportedly died in entrance of the emergency room of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Surulere, as a result of there weren’t sufficient beds out there to confess her there for immediate medical consideration.

Prince mentioned,
“So, she left Port Harcourt and got here to Lagos on December 24, 2022. We referred to as LUTH to know if their specialists had been on the bottom however we had been informed that the machine that might be used for the hyperthyroidism therapy was not working.

“She needed to see specialists including an endocrinologist, neurologist, and cardiologist, among others, but the doctor said UCH has the machine for the treatment but the specialists were not on the ground and that she needed to see a cardiologist to certify that her heart was in a good position for them to put her on a machine for the treatment.”
The Benue State indigene mentioned they had been suggested to see specialists in LUTH and take the outcomes to the UCH for therapy, including that that was what they had been doing all via January until February 2023, when the Central Bank of Nigeria’s new naira design began inflicting points within the nation.
He added,
“To see a specialist was very costly and since my funds had been trapped in banks, it grew to become very troublesome for her to proceed seeing the specialists and persevering with the remedies. Prince mentioned Doofan was given an appointment to renew her therapy on Monday (in the present day), including that she was planning to renew the therapy when she suffered a disaster and was rushed to the Epe General Hospital from the place she was referred to the LUTH.
He continued,
“We received to LUTH round 2am, referred to as the emergency quantity, and the safety officers on the Emergency Ward began asking what the emergency was. A physician later got here out and I confirmed him the referral letter. He introduced out his thermometer, checked her pulse and temperature, and returned inside.

He mentioned the relations had commenced preparations for her sister’s burial at their residence city in Benue.
The Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, LUTH, Prof Wasiu Adeyemo, mentioned he was conscious of the state of affairs.
Adeyemo mentioned,
“I’m conscious however I should not have the main points but. When I found the story on the web, I forwarded it to the Head of the Department and I’m nonetheless ready for his or her response.
“When we see a patient like that, what we do is to investigate; patients sometimes come and there are no bed spaces and what we do is to refer them. But for a really serious, critical emergency, we inform them immediately that there is no space and give them options of where to go.”
