After watching Spirited with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, which gave an intriguing spin on the Christmas Carol story, I made a decision to revisit the 1988 Richard Donner comedy Scrooged with Bill Murray. This is a film I’ve watched YEARS in the past and I bear in mind it not connecting with me. However, after watching it with an grownup perspective, I discovered myself actually loving it.
One factor I by no means seen as a child is how in depth Scrooged’s forged is. Bill Murray, Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, and so on. The record goes on. There are even cameos by Miles Davis, Lee Majors, Paul Shaffer, and Robert Goulet. Plus, the particular TV presentation of Scrooge contains Buddy Hackett, Mary Lou Retton, and Jamie Farr. Even John Glover, who I do know because the voice of the Riddler in Batman: The Animated Series, is on this film.
Carol Kane particularly stole the present for me because the Ghost of Christmas Present. I like how she presents herself as dainty and ethereal however can be deranged and kooky. Plus David Johansen of the New York Dolls performs the Ghost of Christmas Past and is unbelievable.
Even the smaller characters have an opportunity to shine. Seeing Bobcat Goldthwait lose his job, crack, and go on a rampage was plenty of enjoyable. Not to say that Karen Allen is totally lovely on this film.
I additionally love the media satire in Scrooged. “The Night the Reindeer Died” and “Robert Goulet’s Old Fashioned Cajun Christmas” sound like showw you’d see in a basic Simpsons episode.
All in all, I like this tackle the basic Charles Dickens story. I’m strongly contemplating making this a yearly vacation watch much like It’s a Wonderful Life.”
